Starting Resources

There are a lot of resources available to help you get started on your Whole Foods Plant Based (WFPB) Diet. Here are some of our favorites that are available on the internet or as books:

  • The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine Website. This gives a lot of interesting information and includes a link to a free 21 day program with recipes and a support group to get you started. A new group starts every Monday — get yourself scheduled for the next program!
  • Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn’s classic book “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease“. This is an easy to read book, highly motivating book, with a very simple Whole Foods Plant Based Diet formula. The last half of the the book contains recipes to support your new eating habit. This is the book, which, when I read it, caused me to start my WFPB diet the next day — I have never gone back to my old way of eating.
  • Cardiologist Dr. Joel Kahn’s “The Plant Based Solution“. Dr. Kahn, a vegan for 40+ years, is so committed to promoting the WFPB diet that he has opened a number of WFPB restaurants in the Detroit area. His most recent book is full of the latest information on the WFPB diet and its effect on arresting and reversing a number of the major diseases that plague Americans. It includes lots of information in an easy to read format, together with many case study reports. I particularly enjoyed his “Plant Rants” where he vents his frustration over the failure of people to cure their ills through adopting the WFPB diet. The fabulous collection of WFPB recipes reflects his passion for health and good, delicious food! You really need to enjoy this book and keep it by your cooking area!
  • Tired of reading about WFPB and having trouble understanding your cravings for all those damaging foods you’ve been eating? Then watch the excellent series of videos by Dr. Doug Lisle. He is an excellent presenter who with great humor explains how our brains are wired to just love all those deleterious sugars and fats that have caused so much damage to our health. The talks (and a well articulated justification of the WFPB diet) are also summed up in his book written with Alan Goldhammer, “The Pleasure Trap“, which is a great read!
